A highly anticipated Star Wars film from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is no longer in development. Initially announced by Disney in 2019, the project's cancellation was confirmed by Feige himself in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight. The news follows earlier reports in 2023 about the discontinuation of Feige's project along with another Star Wars film by director Patty Jenkins.
The state of the Star Wars film slate is notably uncertain, with multiple announced movies lacking concrete details such as release dates or plot outlines. Taika Waititi, known for directing Thor: Ragnarok, is reportedly still involved with a Star Wars film he was tasked with in 2020, but as of mid-2023, the project seemed incomplete. Moreover, Rian Johnson's proposed trilogy, announced before the release of Star Wars: Episode 8 - The Last Jedi, was not actively being worked on as of early 2023.
At Star Wars Celebration 2023, three projects seemed more likely to progress, but still had no specific launch dates. These include a film by The Mandalorian and Ahsoka's Dave Filoni, another by James Mangold which might explore the origins of The Force, and a story set 15 years after Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker starring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
