In the upcoming comic developments, Marvel confirmed that the Krakoan era of the X-Men series will officially wrap up in 2024 during the New York Comic-Con 2023. This epic X-Men saga first took off in 2019 with the launch of 'House of X' and 'Powers of X'.
The conclusion of the saga will be featured in two linked miniseries - the 'Fall of the House of X' and the 'Rise of the Powers of X'. The former, a five-issue series, is penned by Gerry Duggan, known for X-Men writings, and illustrated by Lucas Werneck, the artist behind Immortal X-Men. It takes off after the 'Fall of X' storyline where the Krakoa nation, after several prosperous years, is struggling with multiple challenges, including Cyclops's life at stake and mutants making their last stand against an organization called Orchis.
The second miniseries, 'Rise of the Powers of X', is a tale set in the Marvel Universe's future, ten years from now. Written by Kieron Gillen of 'Immortal X-Men' and illustrated by R.B. Silva from 'Powers of X', this story revolves around the X-Men's efforts to stop villainous characters like Nimrod and Omega Sentinel from summoning their machine god to destroy Earth.
Apart from these, a new four-issue series titled 'Resurrection of Magneto' is in the pipeline as part of the conclusion of the Krakoan Age. This story unfolds the fate of Magneto, the character who has defied the trend of constant resurrection in this era. The storyline poses significant questions- Can Storm resurrect him? Does Magneto want to return?
All these series are expected to hit the shelves in January 2024, marking the climax of the current X-Men storyline. This aligns with recent changes within Marvel's editorial team, with Tom Brevoort transitioning to the X-Men line in 2024.
In related news, DC announced its plan to relaunch Elseworlds imprint in 2024 during the NYCC, including a sequel to 1989's Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.
