Maggie Gyllenhaal's latest film, "The Bride!", has been officially slated for an IMAX release on October 3, 2025, as Warner Bros. confirms the eagerly awaited "Bride of Frankenstein" movie. Gyllenhaal not only takes the helm as director but also contributes as a writer and producer. The film boasts a stellar cast with the likes of Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and Penelope Cruz.

The plot of "The Bride!" follows a lonely Frankenstein in 1930s Chicago who, in pursuit of companionship, resurrects a young woman with the help of Dr. Euphronius. However, the newly created Bride surpasses their wildest expectations, sparking a volatile romance and drawing attention from a variety of quarters, including law enforcement and a radical social movement.

This announcement was part of Warner Bros.' wider scheduling updates, which also included a new release date for an untitled Paul Thomas Anderson movie and a delay for "Alto Knights". A significant rescheduling was also made for "The Batman - Part II", now set to premiere in October 2026.

As Gyllenhaal has previously garnered critical acclaim for her directorial work on "The Lost Daughter", anticipation is high for her take on this iconic story. "The Bride!" joins a legacy of Frankenstein adaptations, promising to bring a fresh perspective to the lore.

What is the history of the Bride of Frankenstein character in film?

The Bride of Frankenstein character first appeared in the 1935 film "Bride of Frankenstein", which was a sequel to the 1931 classic "Frankenstein". Directed by James Whale and starring Elsa Lanchester in the titular role, the film is considered a masterpiece of the horror genre. Over the years, the Bride has become an iconic figure, often symbolizing the themes of companionship, rejection, and the human desire for understanding and connection in the face of monstrosity.

"The Bride!" continues a storied tradition of cinematic exploration into the Frankenstein mythos, promising to offer audiences both a homage to the character's roots and an innovative reinterpretation. Maggie Gyllenhaal's previous directorial pursuits and the strong casting choices suggest that "The Bride!" may become a notable entry in the history of Frankenstein-related films.
