Mac Walters, the acclaimed writer behind the Mass Effect series, has officially launched a new game development studio named Worlds Untold. With the support of Chinese gaming company NetEase, Worlds Untold is setting up headquarters in Vancouver, Canada, and will operate as a fully remote studio. Their focus will be on delivering AAA action-adventure games with a heavy emphasis on both narrative and world-building. Walters' vision is to create new, expansive worlds that players can delve into, suggesting these worlds could potentially extend beyond just video games into other forms of media.
The team at Worlds Untold is composed of industry veterans including Sotaro Tojima, an audio director with experience on Metal Gear Solid and Halo, and Elizabeth Lehtonen, head of production with a background in Dragon Age and The Sims. The head of art, Ramil Sunga, has a robust resume with contributions to Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem, and Dragon Age, while head of technology Ben Goldstein has worked on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and For Honor, as well as simulation technology at Tesla and Cruise.
The first project from Worlds Untold is already underway—a near-future action-adventure game set in a visually stunning world ripe for exploration. While this new venture takes its first steps, fans of Walters' previous work continue to await the release of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which is not expected to launch until sometime after April 2024.
