LARIAN'S NEXT BALDUR'S GATE GAME WON'T TAKE 20 YEARS

Apr 17, 2024 12:44 PM

Fans of the Baldur's Gate series have been eagerly anticipating what comes next following the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios. While Larian has confirmed that they won’t be developing any DLC, creating a sequel, or working on any Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) titles in the near future, hope is not lost for the future of this iconic role-playing game series. Wizards of the Coast, the company that holds the rights to the Baldur’s Gate IP, is actively seeking new partners to continue the legacy of the franchise.

Senior Vice President Eugene Evans of Wizards of the Coast revealed that while there might be a wait before the next installment arrives, it won’t be another two-decade gap like the one between Baldur’s Gate 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3. Evans also mentioned that they are looking for the right partner to take on the challenge of what comes next for Baldur's Gate. Additionally, he pointed out that the beloved characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 will be a part of the D&D canon and might reappear in future products. This indicates the franchise remains alive with potential future developments, ensuring that the series will eventually deliver new content for its fans.

Will there be a Baldur's Gate 4 anytime soon?

While there are currently no concrete announcements regarding a Baldur's Gate 4 release, Wizards of the Coast is actively seeking partners to continue the series, and beloved characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 may return in future products, implying that more content will eventually come.

Baldur's Gate has been a staple in the RPG genre since its original release in 1998, renowned for its deep gameplay mechanics, memorable characters, and innovative use of the Dungeons & Dragons rule set. Over time, it has gathered a large fanbase and its influence can be seen across many modern RPGs. The fact that Wizards of the Coast is searching for a new development partner to continue the franchise is promising news for fans who have followed the journey from the Sword Coast to the latest escapades in Baldur's Gate 3. With the assurance that the wait for new content won't span another 20 years, fans have reason to remain excited for the future of this cherished series.
