James Gunn Confirms Almost All Peacemaker Is Canon, Except One

Nov 18, 2024 5:30 PM

James Gunn recently clarified the continuity of the new DC Universe (DCU) established under his leadership. The upcoming adult animated series, Creature Commandos, will formally kick off the new DCU on December 5. According to Gunn, most of the previous DC movies and TV shows will no longer be considered canon—except for select elements that are referenced in Creature Commandos. He specifically mentioned that while the character Weasel will return from The Suicide Squad, much of the original DC content will be disregarded. However, almost all of Peacemaker remains canon, with the notable exception of the Justice League appearance in Season 1. Gunn confirmed that Season 2 of Peacemaker will align with the new continuity. Creature Commandos features a star-studded voice cast and will be the first in a series of new projects aimed at revitalizing the DC franchise.

Will past DC movies still be part of the new canon?

No, almost all past DC movies and TV shows will be excluded from the new canon, with a few exceptions related to the new releases starting with Creature Commandos.

Creature Commandos is a fresh animated series that introduces a team of mercenaries, handpicked by Amanda Waller, returning familiar faces like Weasel and featuring voice work from talents like David Harbour and Viola Davis. This series marks a significant shift in narrative direction for the DC Universe, making it essential for fans eager to understand the future of DC storytelling.
