Homeworld 3 Release Delayed to May 13

Feb 08, 2024 10:07 AM

The anticipated real-time strategy game, Homeworld 3, initially set for release on March 8, has had its launch date pushed back to May 13. Gearbox Publishing and Blackbird Interactive have announced this delay, emphasizing their commitment to utilizing player feedback obtained from a recent playtest to enhance the game experience. The beta players helped identify new insights that could improve the game, leading the developers to decide that more time was needed to implement these changes effectively.

Furthermore, a temporary playable demo of Homeworld 3 was released on Steam, giving players a sneak peek at the new War Games mode, a blend of roguelike elements with classic Homeworld real-time strategy gameplay. This mode presents players with random battles and an opportunity to upgrade their spaceship after each victory. Players can experience the demo's online co-op mode for up to three players, with progress saved for transfer to the full game upon release.

Homeworld 3 is the latest installment in the Homeworld series, renowned for its grand space battles and strategy, and is set many years after the previous title. The franchise, which began in 1999, has seen a number of entries and remakes, with Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak being the most recent addition, released in 2016. The game will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store upon its release.

Why was Homeworld 3 delayed?

Homeworld 3 was delayed to May 13 so that the developers could integrate player feedback from a recent playtest into the game, aiming to ensure the best experience possible upon release.

Background Information: The Homeworld series has been a staple in the space strategy gaming genre, with its original release in 1999. The games are known for their epic space battles, intricate strategy mechanics, and captivating storytelling set in a vast universe. The innovative use of 3D space as a battlefield in Homeworld set it apart from other strategy games at the time, garnering a dedicated fanbase. Homeworld 2 continued the narrative and gameplay expansion, while Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a prequel to the original game, took a unique turn by setting the game on a planet's surface rather than in space. Now, Homeworld 3 looks to continue this legacy with updated graphics, new gameplay features, and expansive space warfare that the series is known for.
