"Head of Super Smash Bros Unsure if Game Can Grow Beyond Ultimate"

Oct 30, 2023 7:45 PM

In the five years since the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch, fans have speculated whether any future instalments could surpass it. However, series director Masahiro Sakurai has indicated that he doesn't see how the franchise can possibly get any larger. Sakurai attributes his skepticism to the arduous circumstances endured by his development team in expanding the game's content amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sakurai has previously stated he cannot envisage a Smash Bros. game without his involvement, despite semi-retiring from game development a year ago. Considering the potential arrival of a successor to the Nintendo Switch, there could be the prospect of a new Smash Bros. game developed for it.
