Jun 25, 2024 8:56 PM

Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios' Green Lantern series, titled "Lanterns," has officially received a greenlight from HBO for eight episodes. The show, which features well-known HBO talent including showrunner Chris Mundy and executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom King, will follow Green Lantern heroes John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they solve a dark, earth-based mystery in the American heartland. This series will integrate into James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe, with its first chapter, "Gods and Monsters," premiering in summer 2025. The storyline was initially described by Gunn as a "True Detective-type mystery" involving ancient horrors.

When will the Green Lantern series "Lanterns" premiere on HBO?

While "Lanterns" does not yet have a confirmed release date, the DCU's broader launch will begin with the film "Superman," scheduled for July 11, 2025.

The new series "Lanterns" spotlights Green Lantern members John Stewart and Hal Jordan. In DC Comics, John Stewart debuted in "Green Lantern" #87 in 1971, becoming one of the most prominent African American superheroes. Hal Jordan, introduced in "Showcase" #22 in 1959, is arguably the most iconic Green Lantern. This series aims to merge their legacies within a thrilling detective framework, promising to captivate fans of the franchise.
