At the recent Made by Google Event, the newest series in the Pixel smartphone lineup, the Google Pixel 8, was officially announced. The design doesn't dramatically differ from its predecessor, but noticeable changes include a rearrangement of rear cameras into a large oval cutout, and a brighter new display. The more feature-rich Pixel 8 Pro also sports a temperature sensor and an upgraded 48MP ultrawide camera. Google has allied with iFixit to offer repair parts for the Pixel 8, aiming to make maintenance easier. Google commits to providing 7 years of software updates for this smartphone series. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro boast impressive AI integrations, like the Magic Editor tool. This advanced feature enables dramatic image alterations, such as changing lighting conditions or facial expressions in photos. The Pixel 8 Pro also offers substantial camera enhancements that include auto-focus for the front selfie camera and DSLR-inspired Pro Controls to adjust various camera settings manually. The Pixel 8 series is powered by the new Tensor G3 chip. With body color choices of Peony Rose, Grey and Black for Pixel 8 and Sky Blue, Porcelain and Black for Pixel 8 Pro, preorders are available from today. Prices start at $699 for Pixel 8 and $999 for Pixel 8 Pro, with shipping commencing the following week.
