"Game Removed from Switch eShop for Promoting Driving Under Influence"

Oct 25, 2023 11:00 AM

The game "Need for Spirit Drink & Drive Simulator", in which players are required to drive under the influence, has been removed from the Nintendo Switch eShop. In the game, players have to deliver alcoholic beverages to various events and parties while playing a character who is intoxicated. The controversy surrounding the game's removal from the eShop largely deals with its previous age rating of PEGI 3+, implying it was suitable for children aged three and above. This clashes with the theme of the game, which involves alcohol consumption and driving. Such games are typically assigned a PEGI 16 or PEGI 18 rating.

Originally, the game was launched on Steam in 2018 where there's no visible age rating. Later, it also made an appearance on the Epic Games Store, prominently displaying a PEGI 16 rating. It's still unclear what exactly went wrong with the Switch version's rating. However, PEGI has now updated the game's rating to PEGI 16. It's expected that post a review process by Nintendo, the game might be reinstated on the Switch eShop.
