game denies rumor it’s quitting physical game sales

Jun 24, 2024 12:33 PM

The UK retail chain GAME has denied recent reports claiming it will stop selling physical games in its stores. The report suggested that GAME would only offer pre-ordered physical games and hardware, or items purchased online for in-store pickup. However, GAME's parent company, Frasers Group, confirmed that GAME continues to support the physical gaming market, including a range of games, hardware, software, accessories, and digital gift cards available both in-store and online. Despite this, GAME has recently ended its trade-in service and will conclude its reward programs by July 31, after which any remaining points will become unusable. Additionally, the company has faced staff redundancies and has shifted many employees to zero-hour contracts since being acquired by Frasers Group in 2019.

Will GAME still sell physical games in their stores?

Yes, GAME will continue to sell physical games in their stores. Frasers Group has confirmed that they will support the physical gaming market, offering a wide range of products both in-store and online.

Frasers Group, owned by Mike Ashley, purchased GAME in 2019 for £52 million. Since then, the company has made several operational changes, including ending the trade-in service and revising its reward programs, which will conclude on July 31. Despite these shifts, GAME remains committed to offering physical gaming products to its customers.

It's a relief to see GAME sticking with physical sales, especially with so many shifting fully digital. However, the end of trade-ins and reward programs is a bummer for regulars—hope they find a way to bring more value to the loyal gamers.

It's great to see GAME staying committed to physical games despite the industry-wide digital shift. Hopefully, they can maintain a balance between new operational strategies and keeping loyal gamers happy.

It's good to hear that GAME is sticking with physical game sales, but it's a bummer about the end of their trade-in service and reward programs. Balancing digital and physical markets is tricky, but it sounds like they’re committed to keeping both options alive for gamers.
