Gale finally relaxes: Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 17 update

Jan 16, 2024 10:56 AM

In the latest update for Baldur's Gate 3, developer Larian Studios has introduced Hotfix 17 which addresses several issues, focusing particularly on the character Gale and the game's handling of save games. Previously, Gale would depart from the player's party if not provided with magic items frequently. Hotfix 17 relaxes this requirement, allowing him to stay with the party even if not immediately given such items unless the player clearly states they will never do so. Additionally, this update improves save game compression, reducing the likelihood of errors caused by large save files, and removes nonexistent summons from the files to decrease their overall size. Larian also highlighted potential issues with mods, suggesting users to uninstall them if they encounter problems after the patch.

What changes does Hotfix 17 bring to Baldur's Gate 3?

Hotfix 17 for Baldur's Gate 3 makes the character Gale more lenient about receiving magic items, enhances the compression of save games for better performance, and removes obsolete data from save files. It also includes various gameplay, combat, and UI improvements alongside a suite of bug fixes to enhance overall stability.

Baldur's Gate 3 is an RPG set within the Dungeons & Dragons universe, heavily relying on its lore and mechanics. Developed by Larian Studios, known for the Divinity: Original Sin series, the game aims to capture the essence of D&D in a video game format, offering players an intricate storyline, deep character customization, and strategic combat. Since its release, Baldur's Gate 3 has been in early access, with Larian Studios actively updating the game based on player feedback.

Larian Studios really knows how to listen to the community; easing up on Gale’s magic item demands in Baldur’s Gate 3 is bound to make for a less stressful adventure, and the save game compression fix is a godsend for long-haul players. It's great to see a developer that not only delivers a complex RPG experience but also diligently polishes the game through its early access journey.

Looks like Larian's really tuning in to player feedback with Hotfix 17, giving us more breathing room with Gale's high-maintenance attitude and tackling those pesky save file issues. It's all about smoothing out those rough edges to make our dive into the D&D universe as immersive as possible – a smart move as they steer this early access ship towards full release.

Gotta love how Larian keeps fine-tuning the party dynamics in Baldur's Gate 3—making Gale less high maintenance is a solid quality-of-life improvement for players not keen on his item demands. It's also cool to see them streamline save files; it's the kind of behind-the-scenes tweak that can really smooth out the gameplay experience, especially for us who hoard every item and explore every corner.
