Forever Winter Hits Early Access, But Players Are Disappointed

Sep 25, 2024 11:56 AM

The Forever Winter has officially launched in Steam Early Access, but it has received a mixed reception from players who expected much more from this highly anticipated title. The game, which combines elements of an extraction shooter and survival gameplay, is set in a war-torn world where players must avoid direct combat and scavenge for resources. Despite its intriguing premise and the initial excitement, players have reported significant issues with enemy AI and a frustrating survival mechanic centered around water collection. The water system has provoked backlash due to its real-time depletion mechanic, putting pressure on players to log in frequently or risk losing progress. With the game currently rated as 'Mixed' on Steam, developer Fun Dog Studios is expected to take player feedback into account in hopes of improving the experience over the next few months.

What are the main criticisms of The Forever Winter's gameplay?

The main criticisms of The Forever Winter include poor enemy AI that detracts from immersion, particularly in how enemies detect players. Players have also expressed frustration with its survival mechanics that revolve around water collection, which can reset progress if not managed regularly, leading to anxiety and FOMO.

The Forever Winter seeks to offer a unique twist on survival games by removing players from the traditional role of combatants and placing them as observers and scavengers in an ongoing war. This intriguing concept initially captured the attention of fans of the sci-fi genre, but the execution in its Early Access phase has raised concerns about its playability and overall enjoyment.

It's a bummer to see a title like The Forever Winter stumble out of the gate, especially with such an interesting premise blending survival and extraction shooter elements. Hopefully, the developers listen to the feedback and make adjustments to the mechanics, because the concept deserves a solid execution
