Foamstars' Final Season Announced by Square Enix, Game Lives On

Dec 05, 2024 3:09 PM

Square Enix has announced that the next season of its live service shooter Foamstars, titled "Party Goes On," will be its final season running from December 13 to January 17. Despite the end of seasonal content, Square Enix will continue to support the game by introducing enhancements such as new gameplay features, customization options for characters, and the opportunity for players to revisit previous Season Passes. This decision comes less than a year after Foamstars' launch, which received mixed reviews, highlighting challenges within the live service model as many games in this space have struggled to capture and maintain player engagement.

Will Foamstars still be playable after its last season?

Yes, Foamstars will remain online even after the final season. Square Enix plans to continue supporting the game with enhancements and customization options for players.

Foamstars, released in February 2023, is a colorful online multiplayer shooter that pits players against each other in foam-based combat. Although it aimed to create a vibrant community following the success of games like Fortnite and Rocket League, it faced hurdles in terms of player retention and engagement. The game’s struggles reflect broader issues within the live service genre, where many titles have failed to establish a dedicated player base, leading to early exits and even shutdowns for some games shortly after launch.
