Jul 11, 2024 3:00 PM

Prime Video has revealed a first look at Círdan the Shipwright in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, played by Ben Daniels. The casting of Daniels, known for shows like House of Cards and The Crown, was announced back in 2022 but his role was unspecified until now. Círdan is a pivotal character in Tolkien's lore, especially in the Second Age of Middle-earth. He's known as the Master of the Grey Havens and the original bearer of Narya, one of the Three Elven Rings of Power. The character also serves as a mentor to Elrond in the upcoming season. Season 2 of The Rings of Power will premiere on August 29, 2024, on Prime Video.

Who is Círdan the Shipwright in Tolkien's lore?

Círdan the Shipwright is an essential character in Tolkien's Middle-earth universe. Known as the Master of the Grey Havens, he's an expert shipbuilder and the initial bearer of Narya, one of the Three Elven Rings of Power. Círdan plays crucial roles in several key events during the Second Age and serves as a mentor to Elrond.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a highly-anticipated series exploring events that occurred thousands of years before J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The show delves into the major stories of Middle-earth's Second Age, including the creation of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, and the epic tale of Númenor. This new season promises to bring more depth to the beloved lore, focusing on characters like Círdan who are often overshadowed in mainstream adaptations.
