FINAL FANTASY 14 Xbox Version Adds New Currency

Mar 19, 2024 1:32 PM

The eagerly anticipated Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV, titled "Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail," is set to launch on March 21st. Notably, the Xbox port introduces a new virtual currency system for in-game purchases. Unlike the PC and PlayStation versions where players can make direct purchases, Xbox players will need to buy FFXIV Coins through the Microsoft Store to acquire monthly subscriptions, outfits, and mounts. Also, Xbox users can't play the full version without an Xbox Game Pass subscription, though the free trial, including the Stormblood expansion, is available without it. Subscribers to Game Pass will have access to a complete Starter Edition until April 19th, which encompasses A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood expansions. This information has been highlighted on Final Fantasy XIV's official Twitter leading up to the launch.

What differences are there between the Xbox and other versions of Final Fantasy XIV?

The Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV requires the use of FFXIV Coins for in-game purchases and mandates an Xbox Game Pass subscription to play beyond the free trial and included Stormblood expansion, diverging from the direct purchase options and subscription model found in PC and PlayStation versions.

Final Fantasy XIV has been a popular MMORPG since its relaunch as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in 2013. The game is known for its engaging story, diverse job system, and regular updates in the form of expansions and content patches. A Realm Reborn was a critical and commercial success following the original version's poor reception, and the game has since seen multiple expansions, including Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers, enhancing the player experience with new areas, stories, and gameplay mechanics. Final Fantasy XIV has a passionate and dedicated community, making it one of the leading titles in the MMORPG genre.
