Epic Games Set to Give Away Free Mobile Games Soon

Oct 05, 2024 3:15 PM

Epic Games is set to launch a mobile version of its Epic Games Store for both iOS and Android, aiming to distribute free mobile games weekly starting at the end of this year. This initiative follows their longstanding strategy on PC, where they have given away hundreds of games to attract users away from Steam. Steve Allison, general manager of the Epic Games Store, affirmed that this mobile expansion will feature third-party apps, with titles such as Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition confirmed for sale. Epic plans to offer developers a more favorable revenue split, giving them an edge over Apple's and Google's App Stores. This move comes after a lengthy legal battle with these tech giants, and falls in line with the European Union's Digital Markets Act, which allows other companies to run their own app stores on iOS and Android.

nWhat games will be available on the new mobile Epic Games Store?

The mobile Epic Games Store will initially offer between 10 and 50 third-party games, with the confirmed title being Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition. More games are expected to be revealed as the launch approaches.

The Epic Games Store, originally launched for PC, has successfully attracted gamers by offering exclusive titles and regular free game promotions. This strategy has significantly increased its user base, setting the stage for its expansion into mobile gaming, which is an increasingly lucrative market.

Epic's push into mobile with their store aligns perfectly with the growing market for mobile gaming, especially with their strategy of giving away free games to attract users. It's exciting to see how a more favorable revenue split might shift the dynamics of app distribution, especially after their legal tussles with the big players.

Epic Games taking the plunge into mobile is a smart move, especially given the competitive landscape between app stores. By focusing on developer-friendly policies and free game giveaways, they could reshape mobile gaming much like they did on PC
