Disney CEO Bob Iger announced during an earnings call that the beta version of the combined Disney+ and Hulu app is set to launch in December. This app aims to provide a unified streaming experience for subscribers of the bundled services. The official launch is expected in spring 2024, with March being a likely target.
The forthcoming app will offer a comprehensive range of content, including shows like "Family Guy" and "The Bear". This move aligns with Disney's strategy after purchasing Comcast's remaining stake in Hulu for approximately $8.5 billion, indicating increased collaboration between the two entities. For instance, the upcoming MCU series "Echo" will release simultaneously on both Hulu and Disney+.
Subscribers will be able to access the combined platform if they have the Disney+/Hulu bundle, currently priced at $9.99 per month with ads and $19.99 per month without ads. The services will remain available separately even after the combined app's launch.
Bob Iger also addressed the company's challenging 2023 but expressed optimism about future growth and the focus on "building". Additionally, it was revealed that Disney+ has surpassed 150 million subscribers.
