Developer Apologizes for Lack of Mod Support in CITIES: SKYLINES 2

Feb 27, 2024 2:35 PM

Colossal Order, the development team behind Cities: Skylines II, has issued an apology for the lack of mod support in their newly released game. CEO Mariina Hallikainen addressed the concerns in a dev diary, explaining that fixing poor game performance was prioritized over modding capabilities at launch. However, the company is committed to delivering mod support and plans to provide a status update soon. Besides working on mods, the team has been actively receiving community feedback and is compiling a list of future updates for Cities: Skylines II. Despite the small size of the team, which includes 30 developers, Colossal Order is determined to make improvements.

Why is mod support important for Cities: Skylines II?

Mod support extends the game's lifespan and allows players to add new features, customize their gameplay experience, and share their creations with the community, fostering a collaborative and engaged player base.

Cities: Skylines II is a follow-up to the highly successful urban planning and simulation game Cities: Skylines, released in 2015 by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive. The original game received widespread acclaim for its deep gameplay mechanics, sophisticated city-building tools, and extensive modding capabilities, which empowered a vibrant mod community and contributed to the game's long-term popularity. Cities: Skylines II aims to build upon its predecessor's foundation with improved graphics, more complex simulation systems, and a modernized experience, all while maintaining the open-ended gameplay that allowed players to create a wide range of urban environments. The commitment to mod support is a crucial aspect of sustaining the creative and innovative spirit that defines the Cities: Skylines franchise.
