Dev Cancels Failing Kickstarter for The Day Before, Announces New Game

Oct 23, 2024 11:48 AM

The developer of The Day Before, Fntastic, has cancelled its struggling Kickstarter campaign for a new game called Escape Factory, which only garnered 15.73% of its fundraising goal. In a surprising twist, the studio has announced another new project named Items, described as an action horror prop hunt game. The team claims that the cancellation stems from a lack of interest in Escape Factory and that they may return to crowdfunding after creating a demo for Items. To support its development, Fntastic plans to release mobile games with all proceeds directed toward this project. This announcement comes on the heels of the disastrous launch of The Day Before, which garnered significant negative feedback and allegations of being a scam.

What happened to The Day Before and why did Fntastic shift focus?

Fntastic faced immense backlash following the critically panned release of The Day Before, marked by accusations surrounding unfinished features and similarity to other games. Following this, the studio decided to cancel its Kickstarter campaign and pivot to a new title, Items, in hopes of rejuvenating interest in their work.

The Day Before was once among the most anticipated games, billed as a revolutionary post-apocalyptic MMO. However, its launch revealed major flaws, leading to its harsh reception. The controversies surrounding its development included hiring practices and allegations of plagiarizing content from other games, contributing to widespread skepticism regarding Fntastic’s subsequent projects.
