Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape and the Marathon reboot, both developed by Bungie, have reportedly been delayed amid layoffs at the company. Originally, The Final Shape was scheduled for release on February 27th, 2024, but now it's expected to launch in June 2024. Marathon, initially slated for a 2024 release, is experiencing an internal delay until 2025. Sony, the owner of Bungie, has been approached for a comment.
Bungie underwent a series of layoffs on October 30th. The exact count of affected employees remains undisclosed. Bungie CEO Pete Parsons expressed the company's sadness over the decision and paid tribute to the contributions of the laid-off staff to Bungie's games and culture. He also encouraged other organizations with job openings to consider them.
The Final Shape, the last chapter of the Light and Darkness Saga in Destiny 2, promises to allow players to explore The Pale Heart, a new location teeming with "nostalgic callbacks" from past sagas, including a version of the original Tower from Destiny. It was showcased in August 2023.
