Cyberpunk 2077 New Game Plus 'Impossible,' Says CD Projekt

Jun 06, 2024 4:41 PM

Cyberpunk 2077 will not be receiving a New Game Plus mode, as confirmed by CD Projekt. The quest director, Paweł Sasko, stated that incorporating this feature would "break the way the game is constructed." Despite being designed for replayability, with diverse life paths, romances, and builds, the technical and narrative complexities prevent a logical implementation of New Game Plus. Fans eager for this feature may need to adjust their expectations, as the primary development focus has shifted to the game's sequel and the next Witcher installment. The last significant update was Phantom Liberty, released in September 2023, accompanied by a system overhaul in Update 2.0 and followed by minor changes.

Why isn't there a New Game Plus mode in Cyberpunk 2077?

The developers at CD Projekt expressed that adding a New Game Plus mode would disrupt the game's structural integrity. The unique construction of Cyberpunk 2077 imposes significant challenges for implementing such a feature without breaking the game.

Released on December 10, 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world RPG set in the dystopian megacity of Night City. Despite its rocky launch, the game has undergone significant improvements through patches and updates. Phantom Liberty, the game's major expansion, introduced new quests and features, while Update 2.0 revamped core gameplay elements like the perk system and AI. The game continues to be supported with features like FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 expected in the future.
