Crunchyroll, a popular streaming platform for anime, is spicing things up by launching a free 24-hour anime channel in the United States. The channel is set to go live on October 11 and will be available on LG Channels, the Roku Channel, and Vizio WatchFree. On October 17, it will also be joining Amazon's Freevee.
The new anime channel will showcase a mix of older anime shows, all dubbed in English. Fans can look forward to watching series like Horimiya, Ranking of Kings, Moriarty the Patriot, Psycho-Pass, Arifureta, Sugar Apple Fairy Tail, To Your Eternity, and Code Geass.
Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini expressed his enthusiasm about the initiative and how this channel would help expose more people to the exciting world of anime. He emphasized the role of distribution partners in making anime readily accessible to millions of fans globally.
Don't worry, the newer and premium shows will still be found on Crunchyroll's fee-based subscription and ad-supported streaming services. This free channel is a joint operation between Crunchyroll and Game Show Network (GSN), both of which are under the umbrella of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Sony, which owns Crunchyroll, continues to operate the platform independently. Sony purchased Crunchyroll in 2021 and later integrated it with the anime streaming service Funimation.
It's important to note that IGN's review of Crunchyroll was a favorable one, scoring it 8/10. The review acclaimed Crunchyroll for its wide-ranging programming, extensive catalog, genre diversity, and affordability.
