Constantine 2 Producer Avoids Script Out of Fear for Quality

Sep 13, 2024 4:00 PM

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has confirmed that the script for the long-awaited sequel, Constantine 2, is ready but he’s hesitant to read it because he hopes for its excellence. Given the massive popularity of the original 2005 film featuring Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about its sequel for nearly two decades. However, with plans for the new DC Universe led by James Gunn, uncertainties loom over how or when the sequel will take shape. Potentially, it might exist in an alternate universe, especially considering upcoming projects like Joker: Folie a Deux.

Will Constantine 2 ever be released?

While there is a script completed, it may take time before production starts. The future of Constantine 2 depends on numerous factors, including the direction of the new DC Universe.

Constantine, originally based on the DC Comics character created by Alan Moore, centers around John Constantine, a supernatural detective and exorcist. The original film was well-received for its unique take on the superhero genre, despite mixed reviews from critics. Keanu Reeves' portrayal has made the character an icon, resulting in a dedicated fanbase that continues to advocate for a sequel. The interest in Constantine endures, showcasing the film's lasting impact on comic book adaptations.
