Sony has announced that they're releasing slimmer versions of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition just in time for holiday season. The new models have been made smaller and lighter than the initial PS5s, given a 30% volume reduction and a decrease in weight by 18% and 24%. To give you an idea of the difference, the original PS5 had dimensions of 15.4 x 10.2 x 4.1 inches, whereas the new one will be about 14 x 3.7 x 8.5 inches.
The Xbox Series X/S differ quite a lot when compared to both the old and new PS5s, but it's worth to get an idea of how they'll look inside your living space. For instance, Xbox Series X is 6 x 12 x 6 inches and the Xbox Series S measures 11 x 5.9 x 2.6 inches.
Although these PS5 updates might not be more powerful, they do offer additional storage, jumping from 825GB to a 1TB of storage. Plus, Sony gives us an option to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive to the PS5 Digital Edition whenever you wish, costing approximately $79.99. The updated models also have four distinct cover panels, two with a glossy look, and the remaining two with a matte finish.
There's a price rise for the new PS5 Digital Edition by $50 in comparison to the previous model. The cost for the new PS5 model, with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, will be $499.99, and the new PS5 Digital Edition will be $449.99. Sony will also be launching a new vertical stand for $29.99. All models will include a standard horizontal stand.
That's it from PlayStation world for now. We can't wait to see the internet's reaction to these updates and best offers during the October Prime Day.
