CITIES: SKYLINES 2 TEASES LONG-AWAITED MOD SUPPORT START

Mar 18, 2024 12:30 PM

Cities: Skylines 2 is set to receive the first phase of its mod support on March 25, alongside a new DLC called Beach Properties. The long-awaited modding feature from developer Colossal Order will allow players to build, share, and manage mods via a simple in-game interface. This development comes after Cities: Skylines 2 faced a rocky launch with performance issues and a drop in player sentiment, pushing Steam user review ratings down. Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen acknowledged the lack of mod support as a major oversight. In terms of additional content, the Beach Properties DLC will cost $9.99 and introduces new waterfront building options, while the Deluxe Relax Station, priced at $4.99, adds an hour of new music to the game.

When is mod support expected to be fully implemented in Cities: Skylines 2?

Mod support begins with a beta phase on March 25, focusing on Map and Code mods, with more comprehensive asset modding tools and features to be rolled out later in the year.

Released in October 2023, Cities: Skylines 2 is the sequel to the popular city-building simulation game, Cities: Skylines. The original game was celebrated for its detailed city-building mechanics and vast modding community, which allowed for extensive customization and expansion of gameplay. Cities: Skylines 2 aimed to build upon its predecessor's success but encountered several issues post-launch, leading to mixed reception from the community. The introduction of mod support and additional content represents significant steps toward enhancing the game's replayability and addressing players' concerns.
