The actor portraying Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi video game series, Cameron Monaghan, has confirmed a new installment is currently in development. The initial game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, launched in 2019 and received widespread critical praise, selling over 10 million copies and accruing more than 20 million players. A sequel titled Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was later released in April 2023.
Set after Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith, the games' plot revolves around young Jedi Knight, Cal Kestis, and his battle against the Galactic Empire. During a panel discussion at Ocala Comic Con 2023, Monaghan revealed that work was underway for the third game in the series.
Stig Asmussen, the series' director, had previously expressed his vision for the Star Wars Jedi franchise as a trilogy before leaving developer Respawn Entertainment. Asmussen, who had been with Respawn Entertainment since 2014 and previously worked with Sony Interactive Entertainment on the God of War series, has not announced his next career pursuit.
His departure coincides with a period of uncertainty for EA, as it restructures some studios into a separate EA Entertainment group. Despite these challenges, the Star Wars Jedi series has proved a significant triumph for EA, particularly following the controversy surrounding the loot box implementation in Battlefront 2.
The Star Wars Jedi series is hailed as a potential candidate for "the best Star Wars trilogy in 30 years" if the developers can maintain the high quality of its previous titles.
