Burnout fans rejoice: new sequel may be in the works

Jan 31, 2024 3:00 PM

Stellar Entertainment, the team behind the well-received Burnout Paradise Remastered, is hinting at development of a new installment in the iconic racing game series. Job listings on their official website suggest that they are recruiting for a new arcade racer being built on Unreal Engine 5 for consoles and PC. The developer's social media posts, mentioning 'take downs' and a comment about getting 'rear ended,' have ignited speculation among fans that this could point to either a brand-new Burnout title or a remaster/remake of another entry in the series. Stellar Entertainment has a longstanding history with the Burnout franchise, with founder Paul Ross having spent 16 years at original Burnout developer Criterion, and the team having worked on the last game in the series as well as on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and contributing to Need for Speed Unbound.

Is a new Burnout game being developed by Stellar Entertainment?

Yes, based on job listings and social media hints, Stellar Entertainment appears to be working on a new title potentially related to the Burnout series, famous for its high-speed and aggressive racing gameplay.

Burnout is a series of high-speed racing games renowned for their emphasis on aggressive driving and spectacular crashes, known as "takedowns." Developed originally by Criterion Games, the series gained a strong following with titles like Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Paradise, the latter of which received a remastered version from Stellar Entertainment. The Burnout franchise is known for revolutionizing the racing game genre with its high-octane action and was groundbreaking at the time for its crash mechanics.
