Bungie Ditches Destiny 3: Free Destiny 2 Updates Incoming

Aug 02, 2024 7:08 PM

Bungie has announced that it will not be developing Destiny 3 and instead will focus on providing free smaller updates for Destiny 2. Following major layoffs and the cancellation of a Destiny spin-off named Payback, the company aims to shift resources towards maintaining and enhancing the Destiny 2 experience. The smaller updates will replace the large annual expansions, incorporating new activities and revamping existing ones to keep the player base engaged.

What happened to the planned Destiny 3?

Bungie decided not to pursue Destiny 3 and will instead provide support and updates for Destiny 2. The focus has shifted to smaller, free content updates rather than major expansions.

Destiny 2, released in 2017, has seen consistent success and player engagement, making it Bungie's primary focus. Despite the speculation about a new installment, the decision to forego Destiny 3 stems from the company's strategy to optimize resource allocation and prioritize sustaining the existing game. This approach aligns with industry trends where live-service games receive continual content updates to retain and attract players, rather than frequent new releases.

Smart move by Bungie Focusing on Destiny 2 with regular updates rather than shelling out a Destiny 3 not only keeps the community engaged but also seems like a more sustainable way to manage resources.

Honestly, it's a smart move for Bungie to double down on Destiny 2 with free, regular updates instead of launching Destiny 3. This kind of live-service model keeps the community engaged and can actually breathe fresh life into a game that's already got a solid player base.

Looks like Bungie is going all-in on keeping Destiny 2 fresh rather than starting from scratch with Destiny 3. Smart move, considering the trend of live-service games focusing on longevity and continuous updates to keep players hooked.
