Boondock Saints Sequel Confirmed with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery

Mar 21, 2024 6:52 PM

Fans of the cult classic vigilante film series, prepare for excitement as "The Boondock Saints" gears up for another installment. Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are confirmed to reprise their iconic roles as Murphy and Connor MacManus. However, the franchise is taking a new direction; Troy Duffy, who directed the first two films, won't be returning to the directorial chair and is instead focusing on novelizing the saga. Thunder Road Pictures and Dragonfly Films are joining forces to reimagine the series that follows twin brothers doling out their brand of justice. "The Boondock Saints" initially released in 1999 and didn't fare well in theaters but later gained a massive following, resulting in the 2009 sequel "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day." Despite several hiccups and project cancellations over the years, the series managed to continue through comic books written by Duffy. With the new movie confirmed, anticipation for the vigilante brothers' righteous return is high.

When was "The Boondock Saints" originally released?

"The Boondock Saints" was originally released on January 21, 2000.

"The Boondock Saints" has had an interesting journey as a franchise. Its status as a cult classic emerged over time, thanks to a dedicated fanbase. The first movie, despite a poor box office performance, found its audience through home video and word of mouth, establishing a lasting following that has clamored for more of the MacManus brothers' adventures. With films like "John Wick" now setting the gold standard for action cinema, the return of "The Boondock Saints" is especially timely, tapping into the current appetite for action-packed vigilante stories with a proven track record of cult success.
