Today, Blizzard Entertainment has given fans a deeper look into Season 2 for Diablo 4, known as "Season of the Blood." This update will bring some intriguing changes, focusing primarily on the endgame player experience which has been met with criticism in the past.
Season of the Blood will introduce vampires as a new threat following the events inspired by Lilith in the original Diablo 4 campaign. Players can look forward to gaining new sinister powers to protect themselves against these new enemies. You'll also meet a new NPC, Erys, a vampire-hunting, crossbow-wielder who should prove to be a valuable ally in the upcoming trials.
In response to feedback about the game's endgame experience, Blizzard plans to implement significant changes. Players should expect XP gain enhancements after reaching level 50, making the progression to level 100 about "40% faster," an improvement aimed at alleviating the grind towards high-level play.
The game directors Joe Shely and Joseph Piepiora, in an interview with IGN, admitted they learned significant lessons post the Diablo 4 release and that they aim to deliver the changes players desire. Their focus lies in making the game's endgame content more engaging by adding endgame bosses, implementing a gem rework, and deploying other balance changes.
Blizzard will also branch out of its traditional distribution channel, Battle.net, and launch Diablo 4 on the popular PC gaming platform, Steam, starting October 17. This move allows a broader audience to engage with the game, following the pattern set by Overwatch 2.
These updates and changes are designed to refine the player experience, and we'll be able to see their impact when Season of the Blood launches soon.
