arcade classics Marvel vs. Capcom skips Xbox, hits Switch and PS4

Jun 18, 2024 3:20 PM

Capcom's Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics has been announced and is set to release later in 2024. This collection will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 (playable on PlayStation 5), and PC via Steam, but notably not for Xbox consoles. The compilation includes seven iconic fighting games: X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and The Punisher. The collection introduces features such as the original arcade songs, development documents, unseen art, one-button specials for newcomers, and save/load options. Online play includes rollback netcode, casual matches, lobby matches for friends, and ranked matches. There is speculation that this release may pave the way for Marvel vs. Capcom 4.

Why is Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection not available on Xbox consoles?n

The exact reason for the absence of an Xbox version hasn't been specified. It might be due to licensing issues, platform exclusivity deals, or strategic business decisions by Capcom, but no official explanation has been given.

Marvel vs. Capcom is a beloved crossover series that started in the late 90s, famous for its fast-paced gameplay and roster of characters from Marvel Comics and Capcom's video games. The most recent mainline title, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, launched in 2017. With the release of this collection, fans are hoping it might lead to the development of a new installment in the series.
