AMAZING REVEALS at State of Unreal 2024: Amy Hennig Unveils Marvel 1943 and UEFN's Latest Tools

Mar 20, 2024 5:45 PM

During the State of Unreal 2024 event, Epic Games showcased a range of new developments for Unreal Engine 5 and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). The highlight of the presentation was the reveal of "Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra" by Amy Hennig and Skydance Media, emphasizing the use of MetaHuman Animator technology for enhanced facial animations, similar to Ninja Theory's approach in Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga. Additionally, MetaHuman Animator and Creator are set to be integrated into UEFN by the end of April, enabling users to create realistic characters and animations.

Epic Games also announced the launch of a Fortnite season developed entirely with UEFN by the end of 2025 and the introduction of new creator tools, including a first-person camera setting to be implemented within the year. Furthermore, creators will have access to assets from Rocket Racing, Fall Guys, and LEGO to enhance their creative possibilities within Fortnite. The company has paid out over $320 million to creators since UEFN's inception, with more than 80,000 UEFN islands published to date.

On the mobile front, Epic Games shared plans for the Epic Games Store (EGS) mobile version, aiming to create a cross-platform store functioning on Android, iOS, PC, and macOS. The platform will offer a favorable 88/12 revenue share, and Fortnite is set to return to mobile (EU only) following its 2020 removal from app stores. Additionally, Funcom presented its Unreal Engine 5 powered game Dune: Awakening, discussing how the technology aided the film's production.

Lastly, Unreal Engine 5.4 is slated for full release in late April, with a focus on advancing animation capabilities through Motion Matching, already utilized in Fortnite's Chapter 5.

What are the latest features arriving with Unreal Engine 5.4?

Unreal Engine 5.4 will introduce Motion Matching, an enhanced method for animating characters, improving the animation technology available to developers. The feature has been exemplified in Fortnite's Chapter 5 gameplay.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a highly anticipated game that falls under the action-adventure genre, beautifully blending the rich history of Marvel Comics with video game storytelling. Amy Hennig, recognized for her work on the Uncharted series, brings her storytelling prowess to the Marvel universe, promising an immersive narrative experience set during the World War II era. Utilizing the latest Unreal Engine technology, the game is expected to offer cutting-edge graphics and animation, setting a new standard for cinematic quality in video games.
