The popular videogame The Finals, currently trending on Steam, has faced backlash for using AI-generated voice overs instead of casting real actors. Voice actor Gianni Matragrano criticized the approach, pointing out the poor quality of the AI-generated sounds and the impact on actors' livelihoods.

Matragrano cited an episode of Embark Studios' Meet the Makers podcast, where the use of AI to create voice overs was confirmed by two audio designers, who claimed that while AI can't replicate certain sounds, it allows them to be highly responsive to new ideas and keep the content fresh. Matragrano disagreed with this justification, arguing that professional voice over sessions can also be completed quickly and produce superior quality audio.

The use of AI in video games has become a controversial issue, with actors' guilds and other industry professionals expressing concern over the potential job losses and ethical implications. Despite the controversy, The Finals still enjoys significant popularity, reaching a peak of 267,874 concurrent players on Steam during its first weekend of open beta.
