2K's Project Ethos Launches for Hero Shooter Comeback

Oct 17, 2024 11:14 AM

2K is gearing up to unveil Project Ethos, a new third-person roguelike hero shooter developed by 31st Union. The reveal is set for October 17, 2024, at 9 AM PT on Twitch. This marks 2K's continued exploration into the competitive hero shooter genre, following the mixed results of titles like Battleborn and more recently, the struggles of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. With a strong pedigree, including former team members from Sledgehammer Games and Visceral Games, the studio aims to carve its path in a genre that's seen many high-profile setbacks. Project Ethos could serve as a fresh entry into a challenging market.

What is Project Ethos about?

Project Ethos is designed as a third-person roguelike hero shooter, blending action-driven gameplay with the mechanics of roguelikes, offering unique challenges and character experiences.

The game comes from 31st Union, a studio formed in 2019 by ex-Sledgehammer Games head Michael Condrey, who had a significant influence on the popular Dead Space series. Positioned in San Francisco, 31st Union aims to innovate in the hero shooter sphere, which has been notoriously tough, marked by the overwhelming success of titles like Overwatch. As 2K’s next major release in this landscape, Project Ethos is highly anticipated, especially given the industry’s recent scrutiny over hero-based games.
