Tom Holland on the future of Spider-Man and the arrival of Miles Morales

Tom Holland, the actor who portrays Peter Parker/Superhero Spider-Man, has recently shared some insight into his future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In an interview, Holland talked about his new film, titled Brand New Day, and how he hopes to give the franchise a new direction with the introduction of new characters such as Miles Morales.

New chapters in the Spider-Man saga

With the release of Brand New Day, which is scheduled for July 31, Holland gets the chance to make a breakthrough in the stories surrounding Spider-Man. He said he would like to play a role in setting up a new chapter within the franchise. That could potentially mean the introduction of other iconic characters from the Spider-Man universe, such as Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, or Spider-Woman.

"Whoever comes next, whether that’s a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman, I’d love to help set up the next chapter," Holland said.

Developments in Brand New Day

In this new film, Holland explores the theme of personal transformation, which he calls "Spider-Puberty." The term reflects the changes Peter Parker goes through as he gets older and his responsibilities grow. Holland said he was given access to the creative process behind the film, and he spoke with the writers about his ideas. "The first time I was in the writers' room, I pitched my idea, which they eventually turned into what we have in the film now," he said.

Holland’s role as a mentor and future plans

Holland also reflected on the mentor role Robert Downey Jr.'s character, Tony Stark, played in his journey as Spider-Man. He says that if he eventually steps away from the role, he wants to do so in a way similar to how Downey exited his character: "If I can do what Downey did for me, I would be so happy with a great exit."

It is currently unclear how long Holland will remain tied to Marvel, but Brand New Day is expected to mark the start of a new trilogy centered on his version of Spider-Man.

Future Spider-Man projects and opportunities

As for the future of the characters in the Spider-Man universe, Holland emphasized that several hints about Miles Morales' arrival have already been planted in the current films. At the same time, Sony has focused on developing the Spider-Verse films, where Miles Morales plays a central role, and Insomniac's popular Spider-Man video games on PlayStation also feature the character.

With the ever-expanding possibilities around the Spider-Man franchise, interest from both fans and the film industry in the future of this iconic hero continues to grow, with the potential for new stories and characters on the horizon.
