Street Fighter cast open to Mortal Kombat crossover after IGN interview
IGN says the new Street Fighter film cast reacted positively to a possible Mortal Kombat crossover, after Ed Boon showed interest earlier.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon had already said in May 2026 that he would like to see a Street Fighter guest character in Mortal Kombat. That gives the crossover idea extra momentum, but no official collaboration has been confirmed.
What happened
In a conversation with IGN, the cast of the new Street Fighter film reacted positively to the idea of a crossover movie with Mortal Kombat. According to the article, nearly everyone present was open to the idea, though the remarks stayed playful.
Andrew Schulz said, according to IGN, that his viral joke during The Game Awards 2025 was meant to help get a crossover moving. Cody Rhodes said in the same interview that he was also working on “setting up” the crossover.
Eric Andre joked in the interview, referencing Noob Saibot and the origins of the names Ed Boon and John Tobias. IGN also said Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and Callina Liang responded enthusiastically to the idea.
IGN stressed that there is no studio announcement, development plan, or release date for a Street Fighter x Mortal Kombat film. The comments are best seen as a public tease, not a confirmation of production.
Timeline
The Game Awards 2025: Andrew Schulz, according to IGN, references his viral joke as an attempt to help push a crossover.
May 2026: Ed Boon posts that he would like to see a Street Fighter guest character in Mortal Kombat.
Earlier in 2026: Mortal Kombat II hits theaters.
October 14, 2026: IGN publishes the interview with the Street Fighter cast about a possible Mortal Kombat crossover.
Background
The crossover speculation fits the long history of both fighting franchises. In May 2026, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon called himself a “huge fan” of Capcom’s Street Fighter series and said he would welcome a Street Fighter character as a guest in Mortal Kombat.
The timing of the IGN article lines up with the theatrical release of Mortal Kombat II earlier in 2026. That places the Street Fighter cast comments and Boon’s earlier remarks in the same crossover context, without confirming any official project.
