Zack Snyder has expressed that while he is not planning to return to the DC universe, the only project that might draw him back would be an adaptation of Frank Miller's "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns." This iconic comic book storyline features an older Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to fight crime in a dystopian Gotham City. Despite stating that his focus has shifted away from the superhero genre, Snyder mentioned that a "true representation" of this graphic novel could pique his interest.
In the realm of Marvel, Snyder pointed out that a Daredevil and Elektra movie, specifically adapting Frank Miller's "Elektra Lives Again," would interest him, but clarified that it is the only Marvel project he would consider. Furthermore, Snyder distanced himself from potential involvement with Star Wars, even though his upcoming Netflix film, "Rebel Moon," had origins as a Star Wars pitch.
The first phase of the new DC Universe, known as "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters," did not include an adaptation of "The Dark Knight Returns." However, it did announce "The Brave and the Bold," featuring Damian Wayne, Batman's son, and the continuation of Matt Reeves’s vision with "The Batman II" slated for October 2025. The DC Universe's first phase will also include "Superman: Legacy," "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," "Swamp Thing," "The Authority," and several TV shows.
Meanwhile, Snyder is at the helm of "Rebel Moon," a sci-fi adventure for Netflix that will be released in two parts, with discussions about expanding the universe further with subsequent movies and a TV series. Fans can also expect Snyder Cuts of the "Rebel Moon" films.
As gamers and fans of the DC universe anticipate upcoming releases, it's clear that the landscapes of both superhero film franchises and related video games continue to evolve with new narratives and reinterpretations of classic characters.
