The film, "coming soon" to theatres, is an adaptation of the popular 2022 submarine horror video game of the same name, developed by David Szymanski. The game made headlines in June after experiencing a sales boost due to the real-life disappearance of OceanGate's Titan submersible. Szymanski remarked the correlation "feels so wrong".

Moreover, Markiplier revealed on his YouTube channel reasons behind declining a role in the upcoming 'Five Nights at Freddy’s' film, which he had teased earlier this year. He attributed his decision to a scheduling conflict between the 'Five Nights at Freddy’s' film and 'Iron Lung,' saying it was essentially a case of unfortunate timing.
