Wrestling legend Steve Borden, better known as Sting, has officially announced his retirement during an episode of AEW Dynamite. AEW Revolution 2024 has been set as his final match. The 64-year-old paid tribute to other wrestling icons such as Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair during his announcement, also recalling some of the major moments from his professional wrestling career that kicked off in 1985 with the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA).
The wrestling world previously heard of Sting's retirement during his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech in April 2016, only for him to return to the ring in spectacular style. Sting endured a serious injury at WWE Night of Champions 2015. He detailed his struggles on Ric Flair's To Be The Man podcast, sharing a distressing experience of temporary paralysis during a match against Seth Rollins.
After a surprise return to AEW in 2020, thanks to a full-time, multi-year agreement, Sting has delivered a widely acclaimed run with the company. However, his recent retirement announcement seems to be the ultimate one this time around. Fans have lauded his impressive career on social media, thanking him for the innumerable cherished wrestling memories crafted over decades.
The final match for Sting, marking this momentous retirement, will take place at AEW Revolution 2024, a pay-per-view event usually scheduled for the first weekend in March.
