Witchfire's Ghost Galleon update: New souls-style classes and Gnosis power

Apr 09, 2024 3:33 PM

The Astronauts, a game development studio, has unveiled the Ghost Galleon update for the atmospheric shooter Witchfire, which is in Early Access on the Epic Games Store. This update brings a plethora of new features to the game including new player classes with soul-style mechanics, weapons, spells, enemies, and events. Players can now choose from classes such as Berserker and Penitent, each providing unique stat boosts and gear advantages.

The update also introduces a new mechanic called Gnosis, a separate entity that players can level up to gain power without increasing enemy difficulty. As players advance in Gnosis, they unlock hidden paths and events, and it also includes a Calamity Meter on the HUD, which indicates the likelihood of dangerous calamities occurring based on player actions. Other additions include a shop vendor selling magical items like rings and relics, an improved level progression system, quality-of-life updates, and bug fixes. Further details on the Witchfire full release will come later as the game continues to be shaped by player feedback in Early Access.

What is the Gnosis feature in Witchfire?

Gnosis in Witchfire allows players to level up and gain power without making the enemies more difficult, as well as to discover new paths and events within the game. It improves the player's understanding of dark magic and is leveled up in a specific location, offering ten levels with each providing a Witchfire multiplier.

Witchfire is developed by the team known as The Astronauts, who previously worked on the game The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Witchfire presents an intriguing blend of dark fantasy and first-person shooting gameplay. It showcases an atmospheric world that has drawn player attention and critical interest during its Early Access phase, with many comparing it to other genre staples like Dark Souls for its challenging combat and mysterious lore. The Ghost Galleon update aims to enrich this experience by deepening the gameplay mechanics and providing more content for players to explore.

The Gnosis feature in Witchfire sounds like a clever way to empower players without ramping up the enemy challenge. It's a neat addition that seems like it'll give players more control over their progression and exploration in the game. Can't wait to see how it shapes the overall experience when the full release comes around
