Witcher 4 Delayed Until 2026: Is It A Next-Gen Game

Mar 26, 2025 11:51 AM

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not release until after 2026, potentially indicating it will be a next-generation title. In their recent financial call, the company highlighted its financial goals leading up to 2028 without a specific release date for the game. Initially revealed at The Game Awards, expectations for a 2025 or 2026 release have been tempered, with 2027 now considered the earliest possible launch. These delays also suggest that the game may not be compatible with current-gen consoles. CDPR also stated that generative AI won't be used for The Witcher 4 due to legal complexities surrounding intellectual property. A partnership with Scopely for a mobile game within CDPR's franchises was also announced, hinting at future expansions in their gaming portfolio.

When will The Witcher 4 be released?

The Witcher 4 is now expected to launch no earlier than 2027, as CD Projekt Red has confirmed it will not be released by the end of 2026.

The Witcher series, based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, has become one of the most celebrated RPG franchises, thanks to its rich storytelling and immersive open-world gameplay. The last installment, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, received widespread acclaim, setting a high bar for its successor. The upcoming title has generated significant anticipation, especially with hints of potential advancements in graphics and gameplay mechanics, making it an exciting future prospect for both fans and newcomers alike.
