SEGA has updated fans with fresh details about their upcoming tactical RPG release, Unicorn Overlord, developed in collaboration with Atlus and Vanillaware. Set in the war-torn continent of Fevrith, the game follows the exiled prince Alain on his quest against General Valmore to reclaim his kingdom. As players embark on a journey of heroism to build renown, they will engage in dynamic real-time battles commanding over 60 distinct characters, each with specialized classes such as Housecarl, Gladiator, Arbalist, Cleric, Werewolf, Shaman, Wyvern Knight, Elven Fencer, and Featherbow. These characters come with unique abilities that significantly impact strategies within combat.

Unicorn Overlord emphasizes tactical movement, with leader effects influenced by class selection and unit types, including Infantry, Cavalry, and Flying, altering traversing speed and capabilities. In addition, the game introduces a promotion system and auxiliary stages to advance your troops through battles. The player garners special Treatises to boost experience points and power up skills and abilities.

Since its announcement in a Nintendo Direct, Unicorn Overlord has intrigued players with its blend of overworld exploration and innovative battles. As the game nears its release date of March 8, additional characters alongside the main protagonist Alain have been introduced, expanding the narrative possibilities within the universe of Fevrith. With a lengthy ten-year development period, the direction of Takafumi Noma ensures a high level of anticipation for this enigmatic fantasy strategy game. Unicorn Overlord will be available on PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.

What new features can players expect in the Unicorn Overlord tactical RPG?

Players can expect a rich class system with over 60 characters, real-time tactical battles with strategic depth, a promotion system to develop armies, and unique traits tied to unit types and class-based leadership roles. The combat dynamics notably hinge on effective unit placement and leader effects, creating a nuanced and engaging experience for strategy fans.

Unicorn Overlord adds to the RPG genre by offering a unique mix of story-driven gameplay and real-time strategic battles. Fans familiar with Atlus and Vanillaware's previous work such as 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the Dragon’s Crown series, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade expect a depth of narrative and aesthetic that these developers are known for. Given the decade-long development time and the involvement of veteran programmer and director Takafumi Noma, expectations are high for an immersive fantasy world filled with rich lore and deep tactical gameplay.
