UBISOFT DROPS BOMBSHELL: SKULL & BONES QUADRUPLE-A GAME

Feb 10, 2024 3:50 PM

Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot recently defended the €80 price tag of the upcoming live service game "Skull and Bones", describing it as a "quadruple-A" quality game during a presentation to shareholders. Addressing concerns over the cost, particularly in light of the game featuring a battle pass and in-game store, Guillemot asserted that "Skull and Bones" is a full-fledged game that will meet all expectations. This comes despite the game experiencing multiple delays in the past. An open beta is currently available for players to try until February 12, with the official release scheduled for February 16 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Why is "Skull and Bones" priced at €80 despite having a battle pass and in-game store?

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explains that despite having additional monetization options like a battle pass and in-game store, "Skull and Bones" is a high-caliber, "quadruple-A" game offering a comprehensive and fully-fledged experience that justifies its €80 price tag.

"Skull and Bones" is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Singapore and set during the Golden Age of Piracy. It's focused on naval combat and exploration, and incorporates elements such as ship customization, multiplayer gameplay, and an open world. Initially announced in 2017, "Skull and Bones" has faced several delays and undergone significant development changes, but it draws upon Ubisoft's experience with naval combat mechanics from previous titles like "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag", aiming to provide an immersive pirate experience.
