Tom Hardy says Mad Max: The Wasteland is Dead

Jun 18, 2024 5:29 PM

Tom Hardy has cast doubt on the potential production of "Mad Max: The Wasteland," indicating that a sequel to "Fury Road" is not in the foreseeable future. In an interview, Hardy suggested that George Miller's sequel, which was supposed to take place after "Furiosa" but before "Fury Road," is unlikely to happen. Despite the initial hype, "Furiosa," which delved into the origins of the titular character played by Charlize Theron, underperformed at the box office with a $32 million opening, though it garnered critical acclaim, receiving a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Will there be another Mad Max movie after "Furiosa"?n

According to Tom Hardy, it's unlikely that "Mad Max: The Wasteland" will proceed, despite previous intentions from director George Miller to continue the series.

"Mad Max: Fury Road," released in 2015, revitalized the franchise with Tom Hardy as Max and Charlize Theron as Furiosa. The film was praised for its intense action sequences and rich world-building, securing a top spot among the best car chase movies ever made. The prequel "Furiosa" explores the backstory of Theron's character, capturing her journey 15 years before she meets Max, and introduces new characters, including a warlord played by Chris Hemsworth. Despite positive reviews, "Furiosa" faced challenges at the box office, which may impact the continuation of the series.
