The multiplayer game within The Last of Us franchise is still in development, despite circulating rumors about the game and developer Naughty Dog, according to a confirmation from the game's director, Vinit Agarwel, on Twitter. There was speculation that the game's development had been scaled back due to reports of layoffs at Naughty Dog. Rumors also suggested that multiplayer development had been put on hold, but Agarwel’s statement seems to dispel these.
No footage of the game has been released yet, but new artwork depicting a cruise ship was unveiled earlier this year. Last summer, Naughty Dog claimed that the multiplayer game would be "as big as our single-player games and in some areas even bigger". The game is expected to introduce entirely new characters and tell a brand new story.
