The Acolyte Showrunner Teases Canonization of New Star Wars Species

Mar 20, 2024 2:16 PM

The highly anticipated "Star Wars: The Acolyte" series, set in the High Republic era, is creating buzz for planning to canonize a previously unseen species, sparking fan speculation. At the forefront of these rumors are species like the Bothans and Yuuzhan Vong. The series, which is set around 100 years before "The Phantom Menace", promises a Sith-centric narrative with a broader look at Jedi than any other film or TV series. Besides the anticipation of new species, the showrunner Leslye Headland also hinted at the inclusion of significant Expanded Universe concepts throughout the series. "The Acolyte" will premiere with two episodes on Disney+ on June 4, and continue weekly for an eight-episode season with potential for future seasons.

What new species might appear in "Star Wars: The Acolyte" series?

There's much speculation about the new species to be introduced in "The Acolyte". Bothans and Yuuzhan Vong are among the fan favorites expected to be canonized.

"Star Wars: The Acolyte" promises to expand the "Star Wars" universe by exploring the High Republic era, a relatively untouched time period in the franchise's history. This narrative setting allows for fresh content that delves into the intricate dynamics between Sith and Jedi before the Skywalker saga. Fans of the Expanded Universe (EU) are particularly interested to see how the series will adapt and canonize elements from the EU into the official lore, as well as how it will inform the backstory to the events leading up to the prequel trilogy.
