Take-Two Aims for Record Revenue Despite GTA 6 Delay

May 02, 2025 1:23 PM

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been officially delayed by publisher Take-Two, now set for release on May 26, 2026. Initially expected to launch in Autumn 2025, this decision was made to ensure that Rockstar Games can deliver the high quality expected from the franchise. Strauss Zelnick, the head of Take-Two, expressed complete support for Rockstar's creative vision and remains optimistic about the company's financial health in the coming year, despite the delay of one of the industry's most anticipated games. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto 5 continues its sales dominance, having surpassed 210 million copies sold since its 2013 launch.

Why was Grand Theft Auto 6 delayed?

GTA 6 was delayed to allow Rockstar Games more time to ensure the game meets high-quality standards and exceeds player expectations. This decision reflects the developer's commitment to delivering a blockbuster experience for fans.

Grand Theft Auto is one of the best-selling video game franchises ever, known for its expansive open worlds, engaging narratives, and multiplayer experiences. The series has seen continual success since the release of the original GTA in 1997, with GTA 5 becoming a cultural phenomenon, further fueling anticipation for its sequel, GTA 6.

Another delay Guess we'll be seeing GTA 5 re-released on holographic smart fridges before 6 finally drops. Rockstar's perfectionism is legendary though, so hopefully the wait means we're getting something truly next-level. (Keeps it lighthearted with a joke about GTA 5's endless lifespan while acknowledging Rockstar's quality-over-speed approach.)

Honestly, I'd rather wait an extra year for a polished GTA 6 than get a rushed mess - Rockstar's track record proves good things come to those who wait. Though at this rate, GTA 5 might hit 300 million copies before we see the sequel (Keeps it casual while showing understanding of development cycles and referencing the absurd longevity of GTA 5's success.)
