Surprise Valorant Launches Today on PS5 and Xbox Series XS

Jul 26, 2024 4:20 PM

Valorant, the popular free-to-play team-based shooter by Riot Games, has officially launched in open beta form for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Bringing the tactical FPS experience to consoles, there are significant changes from its PC counterpart. On consoles, Riot introduced "Focus" mode, which mimics hip-fire but with reduced sensitivity, aiming to optimize the control experience. The console version also includes adapted Agent abilities for new input controls but does not support crossplay with PC due to competitive integrity concerns. However, there is shared cross-progression for inventory and battle pass between PC and consoles. Game Pass subscribers will enjoy bonuses like unlocking all Agents. A mobile version of Valorant is also in the works, though details remain sparse since the 2021 announcement.

Will Valorant console players be able to use their PC unlocks and progression?n

Yes, Valorant features shared cross-progression between PC and console, allowing players to carry their inventory and battle pass progression across platforms.

Valorant initially launched on PC in 2020 and has rapidly gained a massive player base, with reports stating it had 28 million monthly players by October last year. The game is known for its deep tactical gameplay and varied Agent abilities, making it a favorite among Gen Z gamers. Now expanding to consoles and soon to mobile, Valorant continues to capture the competitive FPS market across multiple platforms.
